So one of my roommates has been on a yoga kick for the past few months. She's been doing "The Absolute Yogi" regimen and going to classes at Yoga to the People, which is donation-based. This is great, especially when you're on a tight budget. However, I'm not the yoga type. I tried it a couple of times in undergrad, and didn't really feel like it was my kind of thing. I've always been a dancer. I trained in Bharatanatyam (a form of Indian Classical), Indian Folk, and Contemporary, and one of the things I loved most was just dancing. I always got such an adrenaline rush from performing. It was also my workout.
Anyway....
My roommate has totally inspired me that I started thinking that if there are donation-based yoga classes in an amazing city like New York, I'm sure there must be donation-based dance classes. Lo and behold, and thanks to my bestest buddy Google, I came across Liberated Movement in Tribecca. With a minimum donation suggestion of $5 (but you can give more or less) and various classes scheduled Sunday - Thursday, I think I might have just found my yoga. So lower Manhattan -- watch out! This girl's kicking off her shoes (because for most of the classes, they recommend you dance barefoot) and she's dancing 'til she's dead!
