So I was in the computer lab at school the other day when I overheard a conversation between two girls sitting right behind me about what's the easiest way to get to JFK Airport from Manhattan -- subway? taxi? shuttle? One girl was saying the shuttle from midtown is such a pain in the arse and that the A/C/E to the Air Train just takes too long (I've never done the shuttle, but I have done the subway -- it can be a hassle when you've got major luggage with you). So the one traveling was like "Well I might as well take a flat-rate cab to the airport then." Sure she can do that, but it would cost her $52.00 + tolls, and I can think of a whole lot of more worth-while things she could be doing with that $52.
That same night, Alison of The Flare asked me what's the easiest way to get to Laguardia. She figured she would have to do a flat rate cab as well (and if I remember correctly, there is no such thing as a flat rate cab fare to LGA). But luckily for her, she asked me and I told her this: book a shared door-to-door van online. You go online, make a reservation online enter your flight info, book a shared van, driver picks you up from your door (as well as any other passengers who are flying around the same time as you are and are in the same vicinity as you are) and drops you off at your terminal for the rate booked. No hidden fees and no hidden costs. Not even tolls. But of course, you should always tip your driver for helping you with your bags.
And the best part -- it's definitely a lot cheaper than a cab. And you can also make your reservation the night before you're set to travel.
Two services I've used in the past: GO Airport Shuttle and SuperShuttle -- both of which are reliable and also available in other cities (not just in New York).
So Alison -- since you requested it, I posted this one just for you. I hope you found it as easy and convenient as I told you it would be.
