I have a lot of hair....A LOT. I was born with a full head of hair, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to die with a full head of hair. And trying to maintain it can be a pain in the arse...and expensive. Between hair cuts, color jobs, getting my hair done whenever I've got some formal event to go to, it all adds up. When I'm home in Westchester, I have a set stylist that I go to, and up until I stopped working to go back to school full time for grad school, I went to her on a somewhat regular basis. But once I entered the world of grad school, I had to forgo a lot of things, including visits with Anna of Beautiful You in Buchanan, NY had to go as well. And we were both sad about this, but she understood that I had to make some sacrifices. And I thought I would be fine with this, but I should have known better because the moment I saw a split end and some serious roots, I had to fight off a panic attack. It's that serious. That's when my roommate introduced me to Bumble and bumble. UNIVERSITY Model Project, where qualified clients receive free haircuts, free styling and free color from professional, licensed stylists who are attending Bumble and bumble University for advanced training in the most current cutting, styling and coloring techniques. Yes it's really free - you don't even tip at the end of the appointment. And we all know how I feel about stuff that's free :)
The way Model Project works is you go online and fill out a survey on their website. If, based on the answers you provide, it seems that you might have the appropriate hair type that the Bumble and bumble Gods are looking for, then you'll get invited to come to a Model Call. At Model Call, your hair will be assessed to determine whether or not it's suitable for their classes. If they say you're suitable, they'll book you for appointments.
I didn't qualify for their color services because I've been dying my hair chocolate brown for years now (like most Indian girls, my hair is naturally black) and through their single process appointments, they'll only dye your hair darker, not lighter. But I have done their long layers razor cut and I've had a flat brush styling done (the pictures above are from that appointment).
With this kind of thing, it's a hit or miss kind of deal. For someone who went from paying anywhere between $85-115 for a single process, cut & blowdry, I do notice the difference. But for someone who is in grad school full time with a tight budget, this will get the job done for me until I can return to Anna, who I know will gladly take me back in her chair when the time comes.
